Field work in NE Iceland in 2017

I'm a mantle-to-crust geochemist, which means that I'm blessed with a large study area  (>80% of Earth's volume), most of which I'll never be able to visit. The mantle speaks through volcanoes. So I often get to say that imnotavolcanologist

My research aims to understand magmatic processes at the deep roots of volcanoes and the evolution of Earth’s mantle through time. I do this by measuring the elemental and isotopic compositions of volcanic materials such as lavas, minerals, melt inclusions, fumarolic gases and hot springs.

Topics that I work on:

1. Magmatic volatile systematics

2. Petrology of volcanoes above the Iceland hotspot

3. Origins of recycled mantle components

4. Magmatic gases in hydrothermal fluids

5. Fluid-rock interaction in carbonatites
